I've just activated my account, what should I do now?
First of all, Welcome to your photo gallery!
you're only a few steps away from creating your own photo gallery!
Start by creating and naming an album before attempting to upload
an image.
This will create a folder for all your images and unlock your
gallery.
View an illustrated example.
What's the recommended size (dimensions) for my photos?
Because these photos are intended for editing or printing they
should be of good quality and high resolution.
It's recommended more than 800 pixels + in width at 300dpi, constrained
aspect ratios from high resolution photos.
Ideal size for a 3/2 ratio photo at 300dpi: 1800
pixels largest side, enought to print a 6" x 4" up to
12" x 8".
example: 1800 x 1200 pixels = 6" x 4" inches
For 4/3 ratio images, 1800 pixels largest side
at 300ppi would be enough to print a 6" x 4.5" up to
10.6" x 8".
example: 1800 x 1350 pixels = 6" x 4.5" inches
To do this open your photo editor software and set the "crop
tool" to 6" x 4" if you're loosing too much of
the
image it's because you have a 4/3 ratio image if that's the case
simply change the crop tool to 6" x 4.5".
You can upload up to 3008px largest side.
Note that medium and thumbnail sized images are generated on
the fly during upload, only 1 large image is required!
What's the recommended file size for my photos?
2048kb is the max. file size allowed that's 2MB. If you're
having trouble editing your photos you can email them to us and
we'll do it for you!
Why do I keep getting errors everytime I try to upload a photo?
First make sure your photo ends with the extension *.jpg, this
is the only format allowed.
Other formats (RAW,TIFF etc) are now accepted on the [Multi Upload] page only.
If you experience any upload problems please report
it.
How do I edit my photos and reduce file size?
- Import the photo into your photo editor ( Photoshop or other).
- Make a copy of the image and always work on the copy (if you
make a mistake you still have the original).
- Adjust exposure, levels, tone, hue, colour and saturation if
necessary.
- Next, reduce or crop it's largest side to something like 1800
pixels or more at 300dpi. See question above
- Finally sharpen the image ( sometimes called 'Unsharp Mask'
filter.) Sharpening should be the last step!
- Choose "save as" .jpg with a compression setting of 10 or
equivalent, but no less than 80% and sRGB colour profile.
Applying too much jpg compression will make your photo blocky,
uninteresting and of no use to anybody!
Be careful not to over do on sharpening as this can ruin an otherwise
fine image.
Do not choose the "save for web" option found in many photo editors
as this will probably erase the EXIF (photo data) and colour profile
contained in the image file.
Maximum upload file size is: 2048kb | Maximum size is: 3008px largest side
